Faith High Ambition Coalition for Ocean & Nature Action
Global faith communities uniting for ocean protection & nature action
Founded by leading faith organisations including Anglican Communion, Bahu Trust,*Catholic Youth Network for Environmental Sustainability in Africa (CYNESA), Danmission, FutureFaith, GreenFaith Africa, Pacific Conference of Churches, Tikkun HaYam, and United Madrassi Association
A worldwide interfaith movement for the ocean
The Faith High Ambition Coalition for Ocean & Nature Action brings together faith communities from every tradition to protect the ocean, restore nature, and support global biodiversity goals. Faith actors have the moral authority, community reach, and long‑term vision to turn this crisis into collective action.
What the Coalition Does
The Coalition enables faith communities to make public, measurable, time‑bound commitments that support global ocean goals, including:
30x30 ocean protection
High Seas Treaty (BBNJ) implementation
Deep‑sea mining moratorium advocacy
Marine pollution reduction
Ocean‑climate education
Each signatory registers at least one pledge and reports progress annually through a public online register.
Why Faith Communities Matter
Faith actors represent 85% of the world’s population and hold unique assets for ocean protection:
Moral leadership and influence on public opinion
Large community networks in coastal and vulnerable regions
Stewardship of land and sacred sites
Values‑aligned capital (over USD 5 trillion globally)
Long‑term planning horizons beyond political cycles
This makes them essential partners in global marine conservation and climate action.
Starter Commitments
Any community — from a single parish to a global denomination — can join by adopting one or more simple, high‑impact pledges:
Eliminate single‑use plastics by 2027
Protect a sacred or ecological coastal site
Integrate ocean‑climate teaching quarterly
Support a deep‑sea mining moratorium
Advocate for national 30x30 delivery
Ambition is measured relative to capacity, not size.
How the Coalition Works
Make a pledge
Publish it in the open online register
Report annually (light‑touch for small communities)
Participate in at least one Coalition exchange per year
This ensures transparency, accountability, and collective progress toward 2030 goals.
